CH& Client Purchases Book Larder, a Community Cookbook Store in Seattle

In July 2025, Book Larder, a retailer and importer of cookbooks in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, was acquired by Vivian Irving. CH& attorneys Dwight Wheaton and Chris Larsen represented the purchaser and guided her through all aspects of the asset acquisition.

Book Larder has built a strong brand since 2011, offering a curated collection of cookbooks and serving as a hub for food enthusiasts through author events, cooking classes, and demonstrations. The acquisition was structured to ensure seamless continuity of operations—retaining all employees and preserving the customer experience—while positioning the business for continued growth both in-store and online.

For our client, then a  Book Larder employee, this transaction represented a strategic opportunity to transition from team member to business owner. With CH&’s support, Ms. Irving successfully achieved ownership while maintaining the company’s goodwill and strengthening its foundation for future success.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to own a business, and CH& guided me every step of the way with their advice and expertise. With their support, I’m off to a strong start and excited for what’s ahead.” – Vivian Irving, owner.
