Matt Hanna Participates in Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Grand Opening of Seattle’s New MarketFront

On June 29, 2017, Pike Place Market celebrated the much-anticipated opening of the new MarketFront!  For the first time in 40 years, the Market has expanded to provide a brand new public plaza.  The dynamic new space boasts views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains, space for almost 50 vendor tables, several new restaurants (including a chocolate maker), and 300 new parking spaces.

As the mayoral-appointed chair of the Pike Place Market Preservation & Development Authority (PDA), Matt Hanna and Council members assisted in leading the MarketFront project with oversight from the Market Historical Commission and input from the Market community.

The PDA is a not-for-profit, public corporation chartered by the City of Seattle in 1973 to manage the properties in the Market Historic District.  The PDA works to preserve, rehabilitate, and protect the Market’s buildings, increase opportunities for farm and food retailing, support small businesses, and provide services for low-income people.

True to form, the new project established 40 units of low-income senior housing and a new Neighborhood Center.  The Grand Opening Ceremony was a huge success and will be an asset to the Downtown community for many years to come.
