NorthWestern Energy Issues Request for Proposals for Community Renewable Energy Projects

RFP Responses Due June 28, 2017

On May 17, NorthWestern Energy issued a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for renewable energy projects to meet NorthWestern’s statutory obligation to acquire 65 MW of renewable energy projects that are small (25 MW of capacity or less) and that are locally owned.  Projects should have a commercial operation date of late 2018 or if NorthWestern seeks advanced approval of the projects, late 2019.  The RFP is the latest in a series of efforts by NorthWestern to comply with the Community Renewable mandate.  Previous efforts were derailed by difficulties in complying with the local ownership requirement.  The Montana legislature earlier this year passed legislation that would have repealed the Community Renewable mandate, but the bill was vetoed by Gov. Steve Bullock on April 7.

Responses to the RFP are due June 28 with selection to be made by September 8.
