Up for Growth is a national organization that represents a vibrant, diverse, and growing coalition of advocates promoting federal and state policies to address the severe housing shortage in the United States, while advocating for walkable community development opportunities with equitable access to jobs and public transportation. Members include affordable housing and social justice advocates, housing developers, environmental organizations, major employers, urbanists and transit associations.
Cairncross & Hempelmann is one of the region’s leading transit-oriented development (TOD) law firms, and by joining Up for Growth, the firm can continue to advocate for smart, livable urban development.
“Everyone agrees that we have a severe housing shortage, but not everyone agrees on the solutions,” says John Hempelmann. By joining the steering committee of Up for Growth Washington, John will continue to explore the challenges and opportunities for TOD and how to address the housing shortage facing the nation.
John has over 40 years of experience as a land use, natural resources and real estate development attorney. He has worked extensively to help form the legislation that governs Washington’s land use law, using his strong relationships and experience to work with federal, state, and local government officials.
Up for Growth will launch a new website on September 15, which will include new tools, resources, and research that will bring together new and innovative housing and development solutions.
