CH& Announces Its Newest Partners Terence Scanlan and Alan Schuchman

Cairncross & Hempelmann is pleased to announce Terence Scanlan and Alan Schuchman as its newest partners.  “Terry and Alan joined Cairncross & Hempelmann about a year ago and have clearly demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the firm and its success.  They bring an exceptionally high degree of skill, experience, insight, and perspective and they have helped expand the firm’s complex commercial litigation practice,” said Matt Hanna, Managing Partner.

For more than 20 years, Terry has represented commercial entities with an emphasis on engineering and architectural firms in complex civil litigation.  He has worked on some of the largest and most high-profile cases in the region, including the SR 99 litigation that concerned the deep-bore tunnel boring machine in Seattle.

Alan has built his practice around complex commercial, construction, and employment litigation.  His experience as in-house corporate counsel for a global engineering company gives him unique insight into a business owner’s perspectives, and he has frequently presented and written on the latest trends and best practices in construction and employment law.

In May 2019, a team of six attorneys joined Cairncross & Hempelmann from Seattle law firm Skellenger Bender.  Terry and Alan were joined by associates Patricia Laughman, Emily Dahl, Rochelle Nelson, and Troy Hatfield.  The addition of this group was part of a strategic, long-term plan for the firm.  “The group’s experience with construction and complex commercial litigation expands the risk management, dispute resolution and trial services that we provide our clients every day,” said Ana-Maria Popp, Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.
